Electronic Arts wants to use a controversial DRM system to protect new PC games. The system would require an internet connection in order to verify the license key during installation, as well as at regular intervals during play. Furthermore, the system would only permit three installations. EA’s system might then revoke keys that it suspects have been used to pirate games.
Electronic Arts claims that a comprehensive help line will be available to help gamers deal with problems caused by the new system. It’s nice to hear that EA has no problem rolling out an overbearing DRM system that it fully expects to cause enough problems to warrant a “comprehensive help line”. I would trust EA to keep my games running just as much as I would trust Microsoft to keep my music playing.
